In the center of the settlement, a number of dug-standing pillar buildings were built densely together.  The buildings were rectangular-shaped, supported by six pillars.  It is believed that the buildings were used as storehouses and mausoleums.  At the Sannai-Maruyama Site, three dug-standing pillar buildings have been restored as raised granaries.
